This documentary is a tribute to their skill and art. The Koken are responsible for a large variety of tasks such as prop placemet, customs and sets. They have to remain calm at all times and often must crouch for long period on the stage without moving. In more stylized drama they will appear in formal attrie and sometimes can have lines or small voval parts in s performance. Kabuki has had an infuluence on theater throughout the world and the role of Koken has been included in overseas productions. Summary: Like the theatre of other culture, kabuki and bunraku reflect the society in which they were born, its morality, dreams and changes. In the case of Japan, the mid-to-late Edo period was a time of deepseated dissatisfaction with feudal morality, and kabuki and bunraku plays echo the growing power and consicousness of the common people.
