Summary: This is an intorduction to Bunraku <strong>The</strong>ater, containing<br />
information about the founders <strong>of</strong> Bunraku Takemoto Gidaya a<br />
musician and Chikamatsu Monzaemon a playwright; who brought the<br />
combination <strong>of</strong> Puppets, chanting stories and Shamisen together to<br />
become Bunraku. This documentary looks at the creative collaboration<br />
between Chikamatsu and Takemnoto and how they founded the<br />
Takaemoto <strong>The</strong>ater that lead to the "Golden Age <strong>of</strong> Bunraku". <strong>The</strong><br />
role <strong>of</strong> the artist involved in a Bunraku Performance are also explained<br />
from the Narrator, who is the voice <strong>of</strong> all the characters, to the<br />
craftmen, who make the puppets. <strong>The</strong> puppeteers themselves are<br />
three to a puppet, which is unique to Bunraku <strong>The</strong>ater.<br />

Summary: <strong>The</strong> miracle <strong>of</strong> Tsuboka Temple is 100year-old tale<br />
performed by the Yuki Troupe. Specialising in string-manipulated<br />
puppets <strong>The</strong> Yuki Troupe is one <strong>of</strong> the oldest families <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Japan</strong>ese<br />
traditional puppet theaters. Inherited from father to son it has been in<br />
existence for nearly 350 years. <strong>The</strong> story tells <strong>of</strong> a miracle performed<br />
by the secural virtues <strong>of</strong> human love and fidelity as well as religious<br />

Summary: This one act play written by Danpei Toyosawa and Chikajo<br />
in 1877, which depicts the love between a blind music teacher and his<br />
wife, is still one <strong>of</strong> the most popular plays performed by Kabuki,<br />
Bunraku and other traditional theatrical groups. In this <strong>video</strong>gram, the<br />
play is presented by Yuki Puppet Troupe, which has a 350-year<br />
tradition in string manipulated puppets. <strong>The</strong> handling <strong>of</strong> the strings by<br />
the experienced pupet masters is quite remarkable.<br />
