Maintenance and Troubleshooting 4.2 CLEANING THE EXCITATION FILTER The Excitation Filter is located immediately above the gel holder and just below the UV lamp. It is a glass square approximately 3.75” and is a metallic brown color. Follow the procedure below to replace the Excitation Filter. Note Wear lint and powder free gloves while holding the filter. 1. Turn off the Computer and the Imager. 2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the Imager and disconnect the Imager Interface Cable. 3. Remove the Imager’s Top Cover. Slide out the gel holder to reveal two Phillips head screws obscured by the holder’s front panel. Four more Phillips head screws are located on the outer edges of the rear panel. Remove all six screws and then lift off the Top Cover. Save the screws. 4. Detach the two Wire Bundles from the Reflector. Be careful not to bend or distort the Reflector. 5. Remove the Reflector. Locate and remove the shiny tent-like reflector held in place by two thumb screws. Be careful not to bend or distort the reflector. You may wish to inspect the Excitation Filter and clean if necessary. 6. Remove the UV Tube. Grasp and twist the UV tube 90° to release and remove it from the holder. Applying outward pressure to the back of the imager chassis may help. 7. Remove the Excitation Filter. Locate and remove the thumb screws which hold the filter in place. Then, grasp the filter by its edges and remove it from the Imager. 8. Clean the Excitation Filter. Use dry oil free compressed gas to blow particulates off the filter. The filter at this time should be free of any residue. If not, clean with 50% alcohol in water which has been stored in glass only. Alcohol which has been stored in plastic will leave a fluorescent residue on the filter. 9. Replace the Excitation Filter with the most blemish free side facing downwards. 10. Insert the new tube and close up the Imager. 11. Create a new Bright Field file to complete this procedure. Refer to Section 4.4. 31
