The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2004
World inland capture fisheries production
Total catches from inland waters remained stable at around 8.7 million tonnes in
the 2000–02 period. It should be noted, however, that reporting of global inland
fisheries production continues to present problems owing to the lack of reliable
information on catch quantities and species composition. In many countries, catches
by rural communities, who are often the main users of the resource, are not reported
in national statistics. Accordingly, the figures on total catch provided here should be
considered indicative.
