~STUDENT RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES~<br />

Student Rights<br />

As a student, you have <strong>the</strong> right to:<br />

� Receive high-quality academic and student development instruction, communication, student<br />

support, and health services.<br />

� Have parents/guardians or o<strong>the</strong>r appropriate people involved in your educational and student<br />

development programs.<br />

� Ask in<strong>for</strong>mation about MSD policies and procedures, including <strong>the</strong> right to appeal disciplinary<br />

decisions to <strong>the</strong> Principal.<br />

� Share and discuss your views and opinions.<br />

� Be respected as a student and a developing person.<br />

� Organize, meet <strong>for</strong> discussion, and express your thoughts and feelings about any issue with<br />

students, administrators, faculty, and staff.<br />

� Participate in any judicial hearings that involve you.<br />

� Request and expect privacy with regard to your school records in accordance with Federal and<br />

State laws.<br />

� Have access to your records and control over disclosure of your records in accordance with Federal<br />

law.<br />

� Live in a safe and healthy environment.<br />

Student Responsibilities<br />

As a student, you are expected to:<br />

� Understand your role as a learner.<br />

� Know, understand, and ask questions about MSD policies and procedures.<br />

� Respect and obey <strong>the</strong> MSD rules.<br />

� Accept <strong>the</strong> consequences <strong>for</strong> your actions, behaviors, decisions, and choices.<br />

� Accept criticism when you are wrong, and praise when you are right. Develop your skills and<br />

abilities as fully as possible.<br />

� Respect <strong>the</strong> views and opinions of o<strong>the</strong>r people, even when you do not agree.<br />

� Keep your residence hall room clean and do your part to keep <strong>the</strong> environment around campus and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r areas (lounge, lobbies, school halls, etc.) clean and in good condition.<br />

� Respect o<strong>the</strong>r people’s rights and property, including MSD property.<br />

� Respect and value yourself as well as o<strong>the</strong>r people.<br />

� Show mature and appropriate behavior on and off campus.<br />

� Represent your school in a positive way by cooperating with o<strong>the</strong>rs and offering help to those who<br />

need it.<br />

� Improve yourself through participation in class, after school activities, and sports.<br />

� Display self-control and ask <strong>for</strong> help when necessary.<br />

� Dress appropriately at all times.<br />

� Protect your personal property by keeping your money safe. Give it to a staff member <strong>for</strong><br />

safekeeping.<br />

MSD is not responsible <strong>for</strong> any personal items that are lost or stolen while on school<br />

property or during school sponsored events.<br />
