Dress Code<br />

5. Sexual Harassment<br />

Sexual harassment is unwelcome and unsolicited sexual advances, requests <strong>for</strong> sexual favors<br />

and/or o<strong>the</strong>r inappropriate verbal, written or physical conduct of a sexual nature, directed toward<br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs.<br />

Students are expected to wear appropriate attire and footwear. Appropriate attire does not included revealing<br />

clothing and apparel items that are offensive or derogatory and disruptive to <strong>the</strong> educational environment. Final<br />

discretion regarding appropriate attire lies with <strong>the</strong> Assistant Principal.<br />

Earning Student Service Learning Hours<br />

Students must earn 75 hours of Student Service Learning (SSL) credits as part of <strong>the</strong>ir graduation requirements.<br />

Students may begin to earn SSL credits in 6 th grade. There is no limit to <strong>the</strong> number of SSL credits a student may<br />

earn in middle school. SSL assignments need to be pre-approved by <strong>the</strong> CTE Assistant Principal.<br />

Electronic Devices<br />

Electronic devices such as MP3 Players and iPods are not allowed during school hours. Electronic devices with<br />

camera and recording functions may not be used to take or transfer any image at any time on school premises,<br />

even if <strong>the</strong> use of <strong>the</strong> cellular phone is o<strong>the</strong>rwise permitted. Students are not permitted to broadcast any<br />

inappropriate images or videos in any manner in a public <strong>for</strong>um (i.e. website, social media site).<br />

Teachers and staff who handle electronic devices that are brought from home are not liable <strong>for</strong> any damages<br />

that occur to <strong>the</strong> device while in <strong>the</strong> care of school personnel. MSD is not responsible <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> loss or damage of<br />

any personal electronic devices including but not limited to laptops, tablets, and netbooks.<br />

Emergency Preparedness<br />

MSD takes every possible precaution to assure <strong>the</strong> safety and well-being of students and staff. An emergency<br />

safety plan has been established at each campus. Depending on <strong>the</strong> nature and scope of <strong>the</strong> emergency, <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>School</strong> may need to take directions from law en<strong>for</strong>cement and emergency agencies responsible <strong>for</strong><br />

coordinating our campus’s response.<br />

The following responses to emergencies may be implemented by <strong>the</strong> <strong>School</strong>:<br />

� Shelter in Place: This is utilized to protect students by keeping <strong>the</strong>m indoors away from hazardous<br />

materials in <strong>the</strong> air outside or violent wea<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

� Modified Lockdown: This is utilized in response to a potential violent or criminal activity near <strong>the</strong><br />

campus and has <strong>the</strong> potential to affect <strong>the</strong> school site. The <strong>School</strong> conducts activities as usual inside<br />

<strong>the</strong> building, however students are not allowed outside unsupervised.<br />

� Lockdown: This is utilized in response to situations that involve violence that immediately and directly<br />

affect <strong>the</strong> campus or school building. <strong>School</strong> doors are locked and no one may enter or leave <strong>the</strong><br />

building until <strong>the</strong> situation is cleared by emergency personnel.<br />

� Early Dismissal: This is utilized in response to potential wea<strong>the</strong>r situations or utility outages.<br />

� Evacuation: Fire drills are conducted once a month in each building while school is in session. At all<br />

times all persons must leave <strong>the</strong> building immediately.<br />

If MSD staff is instructed to protect students by keeping <strong>the</strong>m inside, family members may not be permitted to<br />

pick up children until it is safe to do so. MSD will utilize www.schoolsout.com and message board to make<br />

announcements.<br />
