Visiting Residence Halls and <strong>Campus</strong> After <strong>School</strong> Hours<br />

Only family members (or a designee) are allowed to visit residence halls during after school hours. They are<br />

requested to sign-in with <strong>the</strong> Dorm Supervisor or <strong>the</strong> Dean of Students. Family members, when on campus, are<br />

requested to be respectful of <strong>the</strong> on-going operations of <strong>the</strong> Student Life Program. If students go off campus<br />

with <strong>the</strong>ir family, <strong>the</strong>y are requested to return be<strong>for</strong>e 8:30 p.m. Parents are allowed to visit <strong>the</strong>ir children in <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

personal rooms in <strong>the</strong> Residence Halls during posted visiting hours and only if accompanied by a Student Life<br />

staff member. The community and <strong>the</strong> alumni are welcome on campus. They are however asked to visit only<br />

during school-sponsored events. Visitors will be restricted to certain areas and buildings where <strong>the</strong> event is being<br />

held.<br />

Damage and Destruction of Property<br />

Willful destruction of <strong>the</strong> residence hall or its contents will be dealt with according to <strong>the</strong> Student Code of<br />

Conduct. When a student is found responsible <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> intentional damage and destruction of an item or<br />

property, a bill will be sent to <strong>the</strong> student and his/her parent. Payment plans may be discussed with <strong>the</strong> Dean<br />

of Students or Director of Student Affairs. Until <strong>the</strong> bill is paid, students will be ineligible <strong>for</strong> any after school<br />

extra-curricular activities.<br />

Residence Hall Rooms<br />

Each student is to respect <strong>the</strong> property and privacy of o<strong>the</strong>rs. MSD provides bed sheets, bed covers, and<br />

towels. The students may bring <strong>the</strong>ir own bed sheets, bed covers, towels, lamps, and o<strong>the</strong>r items from home;<br />

however, MSD will not be held responsible <strong>for</strong> damaged or stolen items from a student’s closet and room.<br />

Closets in <strong>the</strong> high school and middle school are lockable. A refundable deposit is required <strong>for</strong> a padlock or<br />

key. Please clearly label all items.<br />

Personal Electronic Devices<br />

All phones/pagers, laptops, and electronic devices MUST be turned off in <strong>the</strong> students’ rooms 15 minutes<br />

be<strong>for</strong>e bedtime. Each room has a surge protector. Students are required to connect <strong>the</strong>ir pager chargers to<br />

<strong>the</strong> surge protector.<br />

If students are caught by SLCs using <strong>the</strong>ir pagers, students will receive consequences as determined by <strong>the</strong><br />

dormitory staff.<br />

FRESHMAN/SOPHMORES: Turn in phones/pagers at 10:45 p.m.<br />

JUNIORS/SENIORS: Turn in phones/pagers at 11:15 p.m.<br />

MIDDLE SCHOOL: Phones/pagers MUST be turned off and turned in to SLCs be<strong>for</strong>e bedtime<br />

at 9:00 p.m.<br />

SLCs will make sure <strong>the</strong> phones/pagers are charged and ready to use <strong>the</strong> next day. SLCs will give <strong>the</strong><br />

phones/pagers to students after <strong>the</strong>y wake up and get dressed <strong>for</strong> school every morning.<br />

Checkers<br />

Checkers, a recreation center <strong>for</strong> all MSD students, is located in <strong>the</strong> basement of Klipp-Redmond Hall. It has a<br />

snack bar, wide screen television, stereo system, games and seating area <strong>for</strong> eating. Checkers is used <strong>for</strong><br />

daily student get-toge<strong>the</strong>rs, parties, meetings and o<strong>the</strong>r special events.<br />

Student Life Report Cards<br />

Residential students are those students who stay overnight on average twice a week or more. These students will<br />

receive a Student Life report card at <strong>the</strong> end of each term. Interim reports may be issued at any time <strong>the</strong>re is a<br />

significant decline or improvement in <strong>the</strong> student’s per<strong>for</strong>mance.<br />

In-Dorm Supervision (IDS) and In-Room Supervision (IRS)<br />

In-Dorm Supervision (IDS) is when a student is removed <strong>for</strong> up to but not more than 5 school days from his/her<br />

regular after-school activities/sports program and placed under strict supervision in ei<strong>the</strong>r his/her own room,<br />

floor, or <strong>the</strong> residence hall. This is an alternative to suspending <strong>the</strong> student and sending him home. This<br />

provides <strong>the</strong> opportunity to counsel <strong>the</strong> student by <strong>the</strong> Student Life Counselor, Supervisor or <strong>the</strong> Student Life<br />

Counselor. Fur<strong>the</strong>r restriction will result in a student being required to remain in <strong>the</strong>ir room <strong>for</strong> a specified time<br />

(IRS).<br />
