� All residence halls have TVs to provide both entertainment and educational experiences <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> students.<br />

The national TV industry publishes parental guidelines <strong>for</strong> viewing programs. <strong>School</strong> staff looks to <strong>the</strong>se<br />

guidelines in order to determine what is most suitable <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> students in <strong>the</strong>ir care.<br />

� Video games with “E” can be played by students in middle school and high school. Games with “T” can<br />

only be played by students aged 13 and above and with parent’s signed permission. Games with “M” can<br />

only be played by students aged 18 or above and with parent’s signed permission and approval from <strong>the</strong><br />

Dean of Students.<br />

Any exceptions to <strong>the</strong> above policies must be presented to <strong>the</strong> Principal with written justification and under no<br />

circumstances will consent be made without parental involvement.<br />

<strong>School</strong> Visitors<br />

Parents and <strong>the</strong> general public are welcome to visit <strong>the</strong> school to meet administrators, faculty, and staff, view <strong>the</strong><br />

facilities, gain knowledge of <strong>the</strong> instructional programs, and share ideas. Those wishing to observe classes or to<br />

meet with staff members should arrange <strong>the</strong>ir visit in advance to ensure that <strong>the</strong> time is appropriate and does not<br />

interfere with planned activities or instructional time. Parents seeking enrollment <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir children may make an<br />

appointment <strong>for</strong> a visit at any time during <strong>the</strong> school year.<br />

All visitors are required to register at <strong>the</strong> main office in <strong>the</strong> Ely building or <strong>the</strong> Elementary building upon arrival and<br />

are required to wear an identification badge while on school property.<br />

Students Driving to MSD<br />

If a residential student will be driving a car to school, prior approval must be obtained from <strong>the</strong> Dean of<br />

Students. Students driving daily to school may leave campus no earlier than <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> last period of<br />

instruction. Students are not permitted to go to <strong>the</strong>ir car at any time during <strong>the</strong> school day. During school hours,<br />

students may only park on public streets. Students may park at <strong>the</strong> Benson Gymnasium parking lot after 3 p.m.<br />

Students Visiting Homes of Staff Members or Volunteers<br />

MSD does not endorse and will not facilitate students visiting homes of MSD employees and volunteers.<br />

Tutoring<br />

Tutoring at MSD can occur in one of three different ways. The first is commonly referred to as “be<strong>for</strong>e or after<br />

school help” and is only related to current course content that a student may have some difficulty mastering.<br />

This can be initiated by <strong>the</strong> middle school/high school student, teacher or parent. This type of tutoring occurs<br />

only during <strong>the</strong> regular course of a school day as student and teacher are available, and may be provided only<br />

by <strong>the</strong> teacher of that specific course.<br />

The second type of tutoring is paid or unpaid volunteer private tutoring which is arranged outside of MSD. This<br />

type of tutoring may only be done by persons not associated with <strong>the</strong> school.<br />

The final type of tutoring is when <strong>the</strong> parent requests <strong>the</strong> school’s assistance in locating a private tutor who also<br />

is an employee of MSD. This tutoring occurs after school hours and is conducted outside of MSD.<br />

All requests <strong>for</strong> after school or summer tutoring from <strong>the</strong> students, parents, or teachers will be sent directly to<br />

<strong>the</strong> campus Principal.<br />

Using Bicycles, Skateboards, Rollerblades, Roller Skates, and Scooters<br />

For safety reasons no skateboards, rollerblades, roller skates and scooters will be allowed on campus at any<br />

time. Bicycles may be used <strong>for</strong> personal transportation from home to school daily. However, bicycles are not to<br />

be used during school hours.<br />

Volunteers<br />

MSD welcomes volunteers in our school buildings. Adults who wish to volunteer in our school must contact <strong>the</strong><br />

Volunteer Coordinator and must follow campus procedures be<strong>for</strong>e volunteering on campus.<br />
