Low farm incomes in Wyoming<br />

<strong>County</strong> forced more farmers to<br />

seek off-farm employment. In 1987,<br />

44 percent of Wyoming farmers<br />

had off-farm employment <strong>and</strong> in<br />

1997, that number had grown to<br />

nearly 50 percent. <strong>Genesee</strong><br />

<strong>County</strong> has managed to keep the<br />

proportion of farmers employed off<br />

the farm relatively stable at 51<br />

percent, while Orleans <strong>County</strong><br />

actually had off-farm employment<br />

fall from 55 to 51 percent.<br />
