feeds) accounting for $28 million in 1997.<br />
Purchases from the wholesale trade <strong>and</strong><br />
agricultural service firms accounted for another<br />
$8.6 million or 18 percent of total expenditures.<br />
Rail <strong>and</strong> truck transportation also play an<br />
important role in dairy farm expenditures with rail<br />
being an important delivery mechanism for<br />
imported feed <strong>and</strong> truck being the primary mode<br />
of transportation of milk from the farm.<br />
