DHL implements GCC Single Point of Entry deal
DHL has announced it has successfully
implemented the Single Point of Entry
(SPE) agreement as part of the GCC
Customs Union.
The move is set to provide a swift
enhanced service to DHL GCC
customers by cutting shipment delivery
times by up to half a day.
Implementation of the SPE agreement
of GCC Customs Union allows DHL to
perform one time processing of
customs clearance upon entrance into
its hubs in the region.
DHL Middle East will provide SPE
customs clearance in their hubs in
Jebel Ali and Bahrain, as they are the
into the Middle East. John Ennis,
Customs and Gateway Manager, DHL
Middle East said: “This is a huge
development for DHL and will allow us
to provide even better services to all
our GCC based customers as we expand
this process in the future. The GCC
Customs Union is one of economic
agreements that supports the SPE
process fully and we look forward to
further developments within the GCC
Customs Union in a drive to facilitate
trade in the region.”
Through implementation of SPE, the
Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN)
subsidiary will not only improve
delivery times by up to half a day, but
will also reduce the overall cost of
international trade within the Council
states by centralising the customs
clearance at point of entry, the
company said.
The SPE principle is an integral
part of the Unified Economic
Agreement among the GCC States
declared in 2002 in Doha, Qatar. The
concept of the ‘First Point of Entry’ is
currently implemented between
Bahrain and Kuwait and not between
all the GCC States.
Dubai Duty Free (DDF) has announced
that it has selected Oracle Retail
Warehouse Management System
(ORWMS) to streamline the movement
of merchandise and data, giving them
the back office information technology
infrastructure to
support their
2006 target of
$670 million in
retail sales. The
ORWMS will be
deployed in the
new 27,000
sq. mt. semiautomated
Distribution
Center that is
being built by
Dubai Duty Free
to support its
growing retail business at Dubai
International Aiport.
The Oracle Retail Warehouse
Management System offers
sophisticated yet flexible configuration
and built-in best practices, to
coordinate the movement of goods
through the warehouse and ensure
supply issues are dealt with before they
result in gaps on the shelves. Real-time
inventory management results in
improved forecasting, planning and
allocation, and the extended
capabilities mean that benefits are also
appreciated by partners and suppliers
of the retail leader.
“With over 20,000 unique items of
merchandise, the new Oracle Retail
Warehousing Management System will
be critical in accelerating and
optimising the flow of goods from store
to shelf, reducing lead times, freeing
up people to focus on other areas, and
ultimately eliminating lost sales due to
out of stock situations” commented
