Emirates SkyCargo sets sights on South America
Putting smiles to a business partnership: SkyCargo’s Prakash Nair (right) and Scand’s Marcos Oliveira at the Intermodal
South America Exhibition in Sao Paulo.
In a strategic move to expand in
markets across South America, starting
with Brazil, Emirates SkyCargo has
appointed Scand Air Cargo as its Cargo
Sales Agent (CSA) in Sao Paulo. The
appointment, timed with Emirates
Dnata Cargo’s Freezone Logistics
Centre (FLC) at Dubai International
Airport is fast becoming a heavyweight
champion, with efficient handling of
heavy and bulky machinery shipments
destined for Dubai’s growing industrial
sector.
The FLC recently handled more than
100 tonnes of unusually large machine
parts flown to Dubai onboard a giant
Antonov AN124 cargo aircraft
chartered by freight forwarder Gulf
Agencies Company (GAC).
The complete cargo comprised 56
individual shipments, many weighing
more than 17 tonnes and unusually
A Korean delegation of 10 senior
government officials, headed by.
Hak-Kyu Sohn, Governor of the
industrial Gyonggi province in Central
Korea, visited Jebel Ali Free Zone
Authority (Jafza) recently as part of
efforts to promote bilateral relations
between Korea and the UAE. The
delegation held discussions with
Ibrahim M. Al Janahi, Executive Vice
President of Jafza, and
Dr. Mohammad Al Banna, Senior Sales
Manager, Jafza.
SkyCargo’s participation in Intermodal
South America, South America’s largest
trade show, will maximize the carrier’s
ability to service the region.
large, with the biggest measuring 9.62
metres long, 2.45 metres wide and 2.2
metres high.
They were discharged from the
heavy-lift freighter directly onto ten
flatbed 40 foot trailers waiting on the
tarmac at the FLC, after airside
clearance arranged by Dnata Cargo.
Mario Coelho, Air Freight Manager of
GAC in Dubai Cargo Village said: “This
was a smooth and well-coordinated
operation. Despite short notice,
arrangements were quickly made to
obtain the necessary papers and
airport passes permitting direct airside
entry for our trailers. I would like to
High-level Korean delegation visits Jafza
Hak-Kyu Sohn, Ibrahim M. Al Janahi, and
Dr. Mohammad Al Banna
said, "Participation in Intermodal South
America has been an important step in
developing relationships with key
players, potential customers and in
raising awareness of our service
offerings. We have chosen to work
with Scand as they are backed by a
solid track-record and have an
excellent reputation in the local
market."
By appointing a CSA, Emirates
SkyCargo hopes to better serve its
customers in South America and
increase trade access to key markets
including Japan, India, China,
Thailand, Hong Kong, Australasia,
South Africa and the Middle East.
Marcos Oliveira, President of Scand
Air Cargo, said, "We are delighted to
announce our new partnership with
Emirates SkyCargo and we are proud to
be working with such a well-respected
industry leader."
convey my appreciation to the entire
Dnata Cargo team for its outstanding
service during the entire operation.”
The heavy machinery parts were
imported by a consignee currently
completing a production facility in
Jebel Ali Free Zone .
P.P. Kannan Nair, Dnata Cargo FLC
Services Manager said: "These
heavyweight shipments demonstrate
that FLC is fast becoming the preferred
option for charter operators in
specialised and project cargo, who
often require direct delivery from
aircraft to consignee on the tarmac
because of unusual volumes."
The visit comes as a major step in
promoting bilateral relations and
enhancing mutual co-operation
between the two countries. There
are at present 30 Korean companies
operating in Jafza drawn from an
array of sectors such as trading,
manufacturing, engineering,
electronics and communications, and
this number is expected to increase
in the near future, in light of the
growing commercial and political
relations between Korea and Dubai.
