p. 359. When Long was there, Sept., 1823, it was becoming ruinous; Mr.<br />

Roderic McKenzie was superintendent, and Mr. Henry (qu.: Robert or<br />

William?) was with him : so Keating, II. 1824, p. 174. The romance of this<br />

great rendezvous of the Northmen is celebrated in Irving's Astoria, with that<br />

fine penman's wonted felicity.<br />

of the different outposts in his department : Edward Harrison, John McDonnell,<br />

junior, Louis Dorion, Joseph St. Germain, Augustin Cadotte, Michel<br />

Langlois, John Cameron. The names in the next line are those of the clerks<br />

or assistants in four instances.—We have already noted John Crebassa and<br />

J. Duford.—Lajeunesse is in due form ; but the name does not occur in Masson,<br />

and I have no mem. of any such person, excepting one Lajeunesse whom
