Editor‘s note:
About 80 vernacular poems, published between 1937 and 1998, are documented in Professor
Chow‘s manuscript. They are now omitted in view of the forthcoming publication of the
collected poems in modern Chinese by Professor Chow. This posthumous volume is entitled
Hushuo cao: Zhou Cezong xinshi quanji (The Complete Poems in Modern Chinese by Chow
Tse-tsung), co-edited by Professor Chow, Mrs. Chow, and Professor Yoon Wah Wang. Hushuo
cao carries 116 poems, written by Professor Chow from 1930 to 2003, and is forthcoming with
Taipei‘s Wenshizhe chubanshe. Professor Chow himself edited the volume; Mrs. Chow
enlarged it. Professor Wang enhanced the book with missing poems restored.

Xi shi yicui (Selected Western Poetry). Chinese translation of 150 poems by about 150 poets. Partly
published in Chinese journals and newspapers, to be published in book form. The poets include
Shakespeare, Andrew Marvell, William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Walter
Savage Landor, Lord George Gordon Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Keats, Elizabeth Barrett
Browning, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Christina Rossetti, Thomas Hardy, Gerard Manley Hopkins,
Edwin Markham, A.E. Housman, W.B. Yeats, W.H. Davies, Robert Frost, John Masefield, Carl Sandburg,
Vachel Lindsay, Sara Teasdale, Elinor Wylie, Edna St. Vincent Millay, e.e. cummings, and W.H. Auden as
well as Sappho, Catullus, Paul Verlaine, Goethe, Heine, Rilke, Pushkin, Blok, Esenin, Mayakovski, and
Omar Khayam. Complied 1948-50. Unpublished manuscript.
