Stela and Altar<br />
In the main plaza of Kaxil Uinic located at<br />
the west base of Structure 3 the stela and<br />
altar mentioned by Thompson and mapped by<br />
Guderjuan et al. (1991) were identified and<br />
targeted for investigation. The results of the<br />
excavations around and below Stela 1 (Figures<br />
5.2 and 5.3) are presented below, and the results<br />
from Altar 1 follow.<br />
Stela Excavations<br />
Subop KU-1-A was a 2-x-2.5-m unit that<br />
encompassed Stela 1 and was oriented eastwest<br />
to match Structure 3’s orientation. An<br />
additional unit was appended to the west,<br />
designated Subop KU-1-E, a 2-x-1-m unit<br />
sharing Subop KU-1-A’s orientation. The<br />
two fragments of the stela were designated<br />
Stela Fragments 1 and 2. The fragments are<br />
