I acquired the book from a used book seller based out of a city in Indiana that is fairly close to
Chicago. After a little research I found out that Dr. Lopez-Majano was a radiologist and a pioneer
in the field of nuclear medicine. I planned on contacting him to ask him more about my find, but,
unfortunately, I stumbled upon his obituary published in The Chicago Tribune in 2008.
I came upon this long before I knew I would be doing research at a site that was described by
Thompson in this book. Once I found out I would be working there, I realized the significance of
my find. After reading the correspondence from Thompson, I realized that he was not just a famous
archaeologist I had read about in textbooks; he was regular guy like me trying to make a living
while having fun doing it.
