Fixed-Mounted Circuit-Breaker Switchgear Type NXPLUS up to 40.5 kV, SF6-Insulated
Standards
Standards, specifications, guidelines
Current-carrying capacity
• According to IEC 60 298 / VDE
0670 Part 6 or IEC 60 694 /
VDE 0670 Part 1000, the rated
normal current refers to the
following ambient temperatures:
– Maximum value
of 24-h mean + 35 °C
– Maximum value + 40 °C
• The current-carrying capacity
of the panels and busbars depends
on the ambient temperature
outside the enclosure.
Tests for resistance to internal
arc faults
• Tests for verifying resistance to
internal arc faults should establish
proper protection for
operating personnel
• Tests for resistance to internal
arc faults can be agreed
between the owner and
manufacturer in accordance
with IEC 60 298 / VDE 0670
Part 6
• All criteria of the above
standards are met
Resistance to internal
arc faults
Due to the single-pole enclosure
of external components and
the SF 6 -insulation of switching
devices, the probability of faults
in NXPLUS fixed-mounted
circuit-breaker switchgear is
considerably lower than in
former switchgear types, as
• There are no effects due to
external influences such as
– Pollution layers
– Moisture
– Small animals and foreign
bodies
• Maloperation is practically
excluded by logical arrangement
of the operating
mechanism elements
• The three-position disconnector
and the vacuum
circuit-breaker provide
short-circuit-proof earthing
of the feeder
Should arcing occur in spite of
this, the pressure is relieved towards
the rear into a duct.
In the unlikely event of a fault
inside the module vessel, the
energy conversion in the case
of an internal arc fault is minor
thanks to the SF 6 -insulation,
i.e.approximately only ½3
compared
to air. The pressure relief
in the rear wall of the module
vessel operates in the range
of 2 to 3.5 bar. The escaping
gases are discharged to the
rear into a duct.
The pressure relief duct diverts
the gases upwards.
Aseismic capacity (optional)
NXPLUS switchgear can be upgraded
for regions at risk from
earthquakes.
For upgrading, earthquake
qualification testing has been
carried out in accordance with
the following standards:
• IEC 68-3-3, 1993
• IEC 68-2-6, 1995
• IABG TA13-TM-002/98
(guide)
Within the range of the prevailing
earthquake frequencies
from1Hzto35Hz,the
category 1 required response
spectrum according to IABG
TA13-TM-002/98 covers the
following response spectra:
• Uniform Building
Code zone 3
• Seismic Requirements
Spec. 9067; Department of
Water & Power, Los Angeles
