PLANNING DEPARTMENT<br />
The Planning Department is responsible for land use<br />
policy, control of development including the protection<br />
of the natural built heritage and amenity of the<br />
<strong>County</strong>.<br />
Land use policy is implemented by means of the<br />
<strong>County</strong> Development Plan (incl. Town Development<br />
Plans), Local Area Plans, Village and Sraid Plans.<br />
Planning Control involves the processing of planning<br />
applications and the taking of appropriate<br />
enforcement action where necessary.<br />
<strong>County</strong> Development Plan 2009 – 2015<br />
The <strong>Offaly</strong> <strong>County</strong> Development Plan 2009-2015 was<br />
formally made on the 19 th January 2009 and came into<br />
effect 4 weeks later on the 16 th February 2009. The <strong>County</strong><br />
Manager is required to prepare a report two years after the<br />
making of the Development Plan on the progress achieved in<br />
securing the objectives of the Plan.<br />
This report was prepared at the end of 2010 and was<br />
presented to the members in January 2011 and concluded<br />
that a variation to the <strong>County</strong> Development Plan is required<br />

18
