Freedom of Information - Statistics:<br />
In 2011 under the Freedom of Information Act, the total<br />
numbers of applications were as follows:<br />

0 applications received by Birr Town <strong>Council</strong>.<br />
1 application received by Tullamore Town <strong>Council</strong>.<br />
0 applications received by Edenderry Town <strong>Council</strong>.<br />
The Ombudsman<br />
The <strong>Council</strong> responded to the Office of the Ombudsman in<br />
relation to <strong>Offaly</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong> issues.<br />
Student Grants<br />
In the 2011/2012 academic year the number of Higher<br />
Education Grant new awards was 156 and a further 370<br />
students qualified for grant renewal. €2,836,223.64 was<br />
spent on Higher Education Grants during this period. This<br />
money is recoupable from the Department of Education &<br />
Skills, except for a fixed contribution made by <strong>Offaly</strong><br />
<strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong>. The administration of the scheme is a<br />
service provided by this <strong>Council</strong> to students and parents<br />
in <strong>County</strong> <strong>Offaly</strong>.<br />
Áras an Chontae Arts Exhibition<br />
From 2012/2013 academic year onwards all new Student<br />
Grant applications will be made online to a single<br />
awarding authority, Student Universal Support Ireland<br />
(SUSI) through www.studentfinance.ie. Students who are<br />
currently in receipt of a student grant and who are<br />
progressing to the next year of the same course will<br />
continue to be assessed and paid by the existing<br />
awarding authorities - i.e. the relevant local authority or<br />
