Terms of Reference
[a]
Unit
Each course is given a value which is called a UNIT. The
unit is determined by the scope of its syllabus and the work
load of its students. In general, a unit is defined as follows:-

Theory 1 unit is equivalent to 1
contact hour per week for
13 – 14 weeks in one
semester.
Practical/Laboratory 1 unit is equivalent to 1.5
contact hours per week for
13 – 14 hours in one
semester
Language Proficiency 1 unit is equivalent to 1.5
contact hours per week for
13 – 14 weeks in one
semester.
Industrial Training/ Teaching 1 unit is equivalent to 2

weeks of training.

Contact
Contact is defined as formal face to face meeting between the
academic staff and his/her students and it may take the form of
lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratory or field work.
[c]
Accumulated Credit Unit
Units registered and passed are known as Credits. To
graduate, students must accumulate the total number of
Credits stipulated for the programme concerned.
