Around-The-Home <strong>Wildlife</strong>-<br />

Watching Highlights<br />

In <strong>2006</strong> around-the-home participants<br />

16 years old <strong>and</strong> older numbered 67.8<br />

million—95 percent <strong>of</strong> all wildlifewatching<br />

recreationists. The most<br />

popular activity, feeding birds <strong>and</strong> other<br />

wildlife, accounted for 55.5 million<br />

wildlife watchers, 82 percent <strong>of</strong> all<br />

around-the-home participants. About<br />

44.5 million people observed wildlife,<br />

representing 66 percent <strong>of</strong> all aroundthe-home<br />

participants.<br />

<strong>of</strong> all around-the-home participants.<br />

Finally, 13.3 million people visited<br />

public areas within a mile <strong>of</strong> their<br />

homes for wildlife watching. They<br />

comprised 20 percent <strong>of</strong> all around-thehome<br />
