III. Arctic Canada<br />

Despite the comparatively low latitude of Canada’s southern states, the country offers<br />

significant scope for polar travel and adventure.<br />

Permissions<br />

There have been major changes in Canada since the April 1999 when the new territory of<br />

Nunavut came into being, taking in the central and eastern portions of the Northwest<br />

Territories. So make sure you know which part you want to visit. National parks in Canada<br />

have restricted access.<br />

Travel<br />

Yellowknife, NWT and Iqualuit, Nunavut serve as the main administrative and access<br />

points into the Canadian Arctic.<br />

• Canadian North, part of Canadian Airlines flies Boeing 737 jet aircraft to Resolute<br />

from Edmonton through Yellowknife and Cambridge Bay.<br />

• First Air has regular flights north from Ottawa and Edmonton up into Canadian<br />

arctic and serves Broughton Island, Cape Dorset, Clyde River, Hall Beach, Igloolik,<br />

Kimmirut, Pangnirtung, Pond Inlet, Resolute, Grise Fiord, Nanisivik, Arctic Bay,
