department direc<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> enhance communication across instructional services and <strong>to</strong> determine<br />

key academic and student services policies and procedures. The Associate Dean also serves on<br />

the NWFSC Curriculum Committee, a strategic assignment that allows her easy access for<br />

communicating with all academic departments and support services <strong>to</strong> help meet the mission,<br />

goals and expected outcomes of the program. Her curriculum vitae is available in the onsite<br />

resource room.<br />

Key Element II-E<br />

Faculty members are academically and experientially qualified and sufficient in number <strong>to</strong><br />

accomplish the mission, goals, and expected outcomes of the program.<br />

NWFSC employs only those faculty members who meet or exceed the minimum<br />

qualifications specified by the Commission on <strong>College</strong>s of The Southern Association of Schools<br />

and <strong>College</strong>s and by the <strong>Florida</strong> Board of <strong>Nursing</strong>. In addition <strong>to</strong> the program direc<strong>to</strong>r, who also<br />

teaches selected upper division courses, the program employs two full-time faculty members.<br />

An additional three nursing faculty from the associate degree program who possess additional<br />

qualifications as a certified nurse educa<strong>to</strong>r and/or licensure as a nurse practitioner also provide<br />

occasional part-time teaching support. All program faculty members have at least eight years of<br />

teaching experience and at least twenty-one years of professional practice. One full-time faculty<br />

member possesses an earned doc<strong>to</strong>rate in nursing science; all others have earned the Master of<br />

Science in <strong>Nursing</strong> Degree with some post-master’s graduate work, and the program direc<strong>to</strong>r is<br />

currently enrolled in the University of South Alabama Doc<strong>to</strong>r of <strong>Nursing</strong> Practice <strong>Program</strong>. (All<br />

faculty vitae are available in the onsite resource room; Appendix L presents a summary of<br />

current faculty credentials and teaching assignments.) In addition, all faculty members comply<br />

with the <strong>Florida</strong> Board of <strong>Nursing</strong> manda<strong>to</strong>ry continuing education requirements for licensure.<br />

As a means <strong>to</strong> maintain current and up-<strong>to</strong>-date records on nursing faculty, the program maintains<br />

a file on each faculty member, which is available in the onsite resource room.<br />

Each faculty member’s experiential strengths and knowledge are considered when<br />

making course assignments. The <strong>Program</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>r taught the Concepts of <strong>Nursing</strong> Practice<br />

course as well as <strong>Nursing</strong> Research during the NWFSC-UWF Cooperative <strong>Program</strong> era. Her<br />

fifteen years of experience as education direc<strong>to</strong>r for a local community medical center positions<br />

her well <strong>to</strong> teach the nursing elective, Staff Development for the Departmental Educa<strong>to</strong>r, as well<br />
