6) A service district characterized by both rural and suburban lifestyles, a growing adult<br />

population and relatively static child population, significant military and defense<br />

7) A relatively non-traditional student body, of which approximately 13% are minorities,<br />

59% are female, and 80% work more than twenty hours per week.<br />

<strong>Northwest</strong> <strong>Florida</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>RN</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>BSN</strong> <strong>Program</strong> Mission <strong>State</strong>ment<br />

The mission of the <strong>Northwest</strong> <strong>Florida</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>RN</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>BSN</strong> <strong>Program</strong> was developed<br />

after review and consideration of information from six primary sources: 1) The Essentials of<br />

Baccalaureate Education for Professional <strong>Nursing</strong> Practice of the American Association of<br />

<strong>College</strong>s of <strong>Nursing</strong> (Essentials); 2) the Standards for Accreditation of Commission on<br />

Collegiate <strong>Nursing</strong> Education (Standards); 3) the original mission statement of the NWFSC-<br />

UWF Cooperative <strong>BSN</strong> <strong>Program</strong>; 4) the mission statements of selected other <strong>BSN</strong> programs; 5)<br />

the suggestions of the NWFSC <strong>Nursing</strong> Advisory Committee (NAC); and 6) input from the<br />

<strong>College</strong> Curriculum Committee. The full mission statement was composed by the <strong>BSN</strong> faculty<br />

members and reviewed by the NAC (Appendix B). Table 1.0 demonstrates the congruence of<br />

the college and program mission statements in a side-by-side comparison. Key phrases that<br />

illustrate congruence are indicated in companion bold colors.<br />
