weeks in advance. Unused personal days may not be carried over to the next year and<br />
are not compensated at the end of the year.<br />
Any faculty member that wishes to accompany their own child on a <strong>Salam</strong> <strong>School</strong> field<br />
trip must request the time off as a personal day at least two weeks in advance. Request<br />
may be denied if personal days are not available.<br />
All doctor/dental appointments must be scheduled outside school hours. Any planning<br />
time used for personal needs will be counted toward sick/personal leave.<br />
Bereavement<br />
In the event of death in your immediate family, you may have time needed up to three<br />
working days, with pay, to handle family affairs and attend the funeral. “Immediate<br />
family” in defined as: current spouse, children, parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters,<br />
mother-in-law or father-in –law.<br />
Elections<br />
Voting polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on election day. This should allow<br />
staff ample time to vote after work hours.<br />
Leaves of Absence without Pay<br />
Leaves of absence without pay may be granted, by law and/or at the school’s discretion,<br />
depending upon the unavoidable circumstances requiring prolonged absence. Leaves of<br />
absence without pay are of the following types:<br />
Family Leave<br />
Full time, salaried, contracted, eligible employees who have completed at least two<br />
years of continuous service may be granted up to four (4) months of unpaid leave within<br />
a twenty-four (24) month period. Family leave is permitted for the birth or serious<br />
illness of a child, or to care for a parent or spouse, or for a serious health condition of<br />
the employee.<br />
The following procedures shall apply when requesting a family leave.<br />
