1. If the need for leave is foreseeable, the employee must provide reasonable<br />
advance notice to the principal. If the leave is needed for a planned<br />
medical treatment, the employee must make a reasonable<br />
effort to schedule the treatment after school to avoid disruption to school<br />
operations.<br />
2. If the leave is needed to care for a sick child, spouse, or parent, the<br />
employee must provide a certificate from the health care provider which<br />
states:<br />
* Date of commencement of the serious health condition<br />
* Probable duration of the condition<br />
* Estimated amount of time the health care provider will provide care<br />
* Confirmation that the serious health condition warrants the<br />
participation of a family member<br />
3. The school allows employees taking family leave to use any unused vacation<br />
and/or sick/personal time during the period of leave.<br />
4. A request for family leave may be denied where undue hardship to the<br />
school’s operation would result.<br />
5. The school may deny a family leave request to care for a child where the<br />
child’s other parent in already taking family leave or is unemployed.<br />
Employees who satisfy all conditions of the school’s policy and who return to work<br />
immediately following the expiration of an approved family care leave will be<br />
reemployed in their former position or a comparable position following the leave of<br />
absence unless otherwise required by law under applicable circumstances. The law<br />
establishes a number of limitations regarding the rights of employees to such leaves, as<br />
well as their rights to benefits during such leaves. The school administers its policy in<br />
accordance with all applicable legal standards. Please direct any question regarding the<br />
policy to the principal.<br />
Maternity Leave<br />
It is the policy of <strong>Salam</strong> <strong>School</strong> to strictly comply with all Federal, State, and Local laws<br />
mandating non-discrimination against pregnant employees in matters of employment.<br />
<strong>Salam</strong> <strong>School</strong> will allow a pregnant employee to continue in her job so as long as she<br />
and her doctor agree that she is capable of performing her job duties, as described in<br />
the applicable job description. Employees are asked to notify the principal as soon as<br />
possible after the fact that their doctor confirms pregnancy. <strong>Salam</strong> <strong>School</strong> requests this<br />
notification in order to allow sufficient time to make staffing arrangements during the<br />
employee’s disability. In addition, employees are to discuss with the principal their<br />
