Unıversal ıcon: The Coca-Cola bottle
Coca-Cola yöneticilerinin taklit içecekleri ayırt edebilmek için karanlıkta ya da
kırıkken bile tanınabilecek özel bir şişe tasarlatmaya karar vermesiyle ortaya çıkan
Coca-Cola’nın orijinal şişesi, dünyanın ilk patentli ambalajı unvanına sahip. “Contour
Bottle” adıyla bilinen klasik cam şişe 1915 yılında şişe tasarımcısı Earl R. Dean tarafından
tasarlandı. Coca-Cola’nın bir kültür ikonu haline gelmiş özel şişesi aynı zamanda
pek çok tasarıma ilham verdi, vermeye de devam ediyor. Akla gelen ilk örnek, modern
resimlerinde orijinal Coca-Cola şişesine yer veren Andy Warhol. Sanatçının “Yeşil
Coca-Cola Şişeleri” dizisi şu anda New York’taki The Whitney Museum of American
Art Müzesi’nde sergilenen bir koleksiyonun parçası.

Amerikan modernizminin öncülerinden George Nelson tarafından
1950’li yıllarda tasarlanan koleksiyon, her türlü ev ve ofis için
kullanılabiliyor. “Eye Clock”, MoMA dâhil olmak üzere pek çok müzenin
koleksiyonunda yer alıyor. Tasarımcı George Nelson’ın retro modern
saatleri Vitra tarafından üretiliyor.
The collection designed in the 1950’s by George Nelson, one of the
pioneers of American modernism, can be used around every type
of home or office. The “Eye Clock” took its place in many major
museum collections including MoMA. Designer George Nelson’s retro
modern watches are manufactured by Vitra.
The original bottle of Coca-Cola, the brainchild of Coca-
Cola management to design a bottle recognizable in the
dark or even when it is broken, to differentiate itself from
imitators, carries the honor to be the world’s first patented
package. The classic glass bottle known as the “Contour
Bottle” was designed by bottle designer Earl R. Dean in
1915. This special bottle enjoying the status of a cultural
icon has inspired many other designs and continues to do
so to this day. The first name that springs to mind is Andy
Warhol who painted the original Coca-Cola bottle in his
modern works of art. “The Green Cola Bottles” series of
the artist is a part of a collection exhibited in The Whitney
Museum of American Art in New York.
