now indicate their specific training needs. It is apparent that they
also consult with the Scarce and Critical Skills Guide. A greater
understanding that training must also lead to competence resulted
in a higher completion rate than in previous years.
Internships
Interns were placed with all six public FET Colleges and three
Universities. Of the 23 graduates placed and mentored, three
found employment within the institution before completion of
the internship period, while the rest completed their 12 month
placements with better skills to enhance their employability.
Support for Small Levy-paying Organisations
Small levy-payer support remains a challenge. Small employers do
not see enough of an incentive to participate in skills development
as their mandatory grant claims do not amount to much. Through
focussed WSP mobilisation workshops, the province was able
to improve and motivate 132 small levy-paying organisations to
participate in skills development through the submission of their
WSPs on an annual basis.
