now indicate their specific training needs. It is apparent that they<br />

also consult with the Scarce and Critical Skills Guide. A greater<br />

understanding that training must also lead to competence resulted<br />

in a higher completion rate than in previous years.<br />

Internships<br />

Interns were placed with all six public FET Colleges and three<br />

Universities. Of the 23 graduates placed and mentored, three<br />

found employment within the institution before completion of<br />

the internship period, while the rest completed their 12 month<br />

placements with better skills to enhance their employability.<br />

Support for Small Levy-paying Organisations<br />

Small levy-payer support remains a challenge. Small employers do<br />

not see enough of an incentive to participate in skills development<br />

as their mandatory grant claims do not amount to much. Through<br />

focussed WSP mobilisation workshops, the province was able<br />

to improve and motivate 132 small levy-paying organisations to<br />

participate in skills development through the submission of their<br />

WSPs on an annual basis.<br />
