Over 90% of the children we have<br />
treated have improved on target,<br />
symptom-based clinical global<br />
impression ratings (TSCGI).<br />
Our service offers highly specialist pharmacological <strong>and</strong><br />
psychological assessment <strong>and</strong> treatment for children with<br />
a variety of neuropsychiatric disorders, in the context of<br />
complex neurodevelopmental disorders, genetic or<br />
neurodegenerative disorders, acquired brain injury,<br />
psychotropic-induced side-effects <strong>and</strong> children experiencing<br />
specific medical conditions <strong>and</strong> terminal illnesses.<br />
Innovative pharmacological <strong>and</strong> behavioural strategies<br />
implemented within existing neuro-rehabilitation programmes<br />
produced 90% good or excellent TS-CGI improvement.<br />
Less than 8% of children referred have required<br />
inpatient admissions.<br />
Over 85% of children with neurodegenerative disorders,<br />
including childhood dementias, have shown good or<br />
excellent response on TS-CGI. We are the only clinic<br />
currently specializing in this in the world.<br />
Serious psychotropic-related side-effects such as tardive<br />
dyskinesia has been successfully treated in the majority of<br />
subjects referred to the clinic.<br />

A comprehensive assessment with the child or young person<br />
(depending upon abilities) <strong>and</strong> their parents or carers to clarify<br />
diagnostic status, in particular neurodevelopmental <strong>and</strong><br />
neuropsychiatric disorders. Information is collated using internetbased<br />
questionnaires, paper questionnaires, audio-conferencing <strong>and</strong><br />
video-conferencing methods in addition to face-to-face assessment<br />
<strong>and</strong> information from a variety of sources is included e.g. child,<br />
parent, schools, other agencies etc.<br />
Medication initiation, monitoring <strong>and</strong> stabilisation. Nonpharmacological<br />
treatment <strong>and</strong> support to parents or carers, as well<br />
as <strong>CAMHS</strong> <strong>and</strong> educational colleagues.<br />

Criteria<br />
Eligibility<br />
• Two – 18 years old<br />
• Male or female<br />
• Centre for Interventional Paediatric Psychopharmacology assesses<br />
<strong>and</strong> manages:<br />
(i) Complex multiple co-morbid neuropsychiatric <strong>and</strong><br />
neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, organic pathology,<br />
autism spectrum disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder,<br />
Tourette’s syndrome or tic disorders, epilepsy, paediatric bipolar<br />
disorder, depression<br />
(ii) Treatment-resistant neuropsychiatric disorders, especially in the<br />
context of previous failed multiple pharmacological interventions<br />
(iii) Children being considered for inpatient admission, with a<br />
view to preventing this through fine-tuning of pharmacological<br />
<strong>and</strong> psychological interventions<br />
(iv) Assessment <strong>and</strong> treatment to facilitate <strong>and</strong> enable discharge<br />
of children who have not responded adequately to long<br />
inpatient admissions<br />
(v) Serious psychopathology such as childhood regression <strong>and</strong><br />
childhood dementias, neurometabolic syndromes in the context<br />
of genetic or medical disorders e.g. lysosomal storage disorders<br />
such as Hurler’s syndrome, Hunter’s syndrome, Sanfilipo <strong>and</strong><br />
Gaucher’s disease, Niemann-Pick Type C<br />
(vi) Psychopathology in those with severe <strong>and</strong> profound brain injury<br />
(vii) Provides outreach neuropsychiatry <strong>and</strong> psychopharmacology<br />
support to inpatient neurorehabilitation units<br />
(viii) Serious medication-related side-effects such as tardive<br />
dyskinesia, metabolic syndrome, cardiac complications etc<br />
(ix) Children who need medication to manage psychopathology<br />
in medically high-risk groups such as cardiomyopathy, organ<br />
transplants<br />

Training is available on topics relating to the assessment, treatment<br />
<strong>and</strong> management of children <strong>and</strong> young people with complex<br />
neurodevelopmental <strong>and</strong> neuropsychiatric disorders in the context of<br />
a range of physical conditions.<br />
