AP 642. Pediatrics Elective Rotation (2):<br />
This is an additional two-week rotation in a<br />
pediatric setting, where students provide supervised<br />
care for newborns, infants, children <strong>and</strong><br />
adolescents. Patient care activities center around<br />
assessing normal growth <strong>and</strong> development, <strong>and</strong><br />
diagnosing <strong>and</strong> formulating management plans<br />
for conditions commonly encountered in the<br />
pediatric population. Prerequisite: Fifth year<br />
st<strong>and</strong>ing. (G) (2)<br />
AP 643. Community Mental <strong>Health</strong> Elective<br />
Rotation (2): This is an additional two-week<br />
rotation in either an inpatient or outpatient<br />
mental health setting. Students provide supervised<br />
care <strong>of</strong> patients being treated for various<br />
psychiatric diseases. <strong>The</strong> student will be guided<br />
in gathering clinically relevant information,<br />
recognizing common mental health problems,<br />
developing counseling techniques <strong>and</strong> mechanisms<br />
<strong>of</strong> patient referral to other healthcare<br />
providers. Prerequisites: Fifth year st<strong>and</strong>ing.<br />

AP 644. Obstetrics/Gynecology Elective<br />
Rotation (2): This is an additional two-week<br />
rotation in an obstetrics/gynecology practice,<br />
where students provide supervised care for<br />
women. Patient care activities center around<br />
assessing the reproductive system in pregnant<br />
<strong>and</strong> non-pregnant states, <strong>and</strong> formulating<br />
therapeutic plans for treating conditions commonly<br />
encountered in an obstetrics/gynecology<br />
practice. Prerequisites: Fifth year st<strong>and</strong>ing. (G)(2)<br />
AP 645. Emergency Medicine Elective<br />
Rotation (2): This is an additional two-week<br />
rotation in a hospital emergency department<br />
where students provide care for patients with<br />
conditions ranging from non-urgent medical<br />
problems to major trauma <strong>and</strong> critical illness.<br />
Emphasis is on etiology, evaluation <strong>and</strong> initial<br />
treatment <strong>of</strong> common medical <strong>and</strong> surgical<br />
conditions. Prerequisite: Fifth year st<strong>and</strong>ing.<br />

AP 646 General Surgery Elective Rotation<br />
(2): This is an additional two-week rotation<br />
in a general surgery practice, where students<br />
provide supervised care for women. Patient<br />

AP 650 Family Practice Elective Rotation<br />
(4): This is an additional one-month rotation<br />
in a family practice setting where students<br />
provide supervised care for patients ranging in<br />
age from newborns to the elderly. Patient care<br />
activities include eliciting histories, performing<br />
physicals, ordering/performing diagnostic<br />
tests, <strong>and</strong> formulating management plans.<br />
Prerequisite: Fifth year st<strong>and</strong>ing. (G)(4)<br />
AP 651 Internal Medicine Elective Rotation<br />
(4): This is an additional one month rotation<br />
designed to expose students to the indications,<br />
limitations, <strong>and</strong> methods <strong>of</strong> performing<br />
diagnostic <strong>and</strong> therapeutic measures used in<br />
the treatment <strong>of</strong> general medical disorders.<br />
Students will perform patient care activities in<br />
