RX 353. Preparation for Honors Research:<br />
An introduction to the basic concepts <strong>and</strong> skills<br />
needed to conduct research in the pharmaceutical<br />
sciences or pharmacy practice. This course<br />
fulfills the departmental honors course requirements<br />
for the Honors Program. Prerequisite:<br />

RX 403. <strong>The</strong>rapeutics I Case Studies: A<br />
case-based approach to the development <strong>and</strong><br />
monitoring <strong>of</strong> therapeutic plans for selected<br />
diseases. Must be taken concurrently with RX<br />

RX 404. <strong>The</strong>rapeutics II Case Studies: A<br />
case-based approach to the development <strong>and</strong><br />
monitoring <strong>of</strong> therapeutic plans for selected<br />
diseases. Corequisite: RX 414. Prerequisite:<br />

RX 411. Principles <strong>of</strong> Drug Action I: <strong>The</strong><br />
course creates the drug knowledge base that can<br />
be applied to solve therapeutic problems <strong>of</strong><br />
patients. Selected drug categories are considered.<br />
Prerequisites: RX 314, RX 318. (U)(4)<br />
RX 412. Principles <strong>of</strong> Drug Action II: <strong>The</strong><br />
course is intended to create the drug knowledge<br />
base that can be applied to solve the therapeutic<br />
problems <strong>of</strong> patients. Drug classes considered<br />
include cardiovascular <strong>and</strong> renal drugs, antihistamines,<br />
<strong>and</strong> nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory<br />
drugs. Prerequisites: RX 314, RX 318. (U)(4)<br />
RX 413. <strong>The</strong>rapeutics I: A consideration <strong>of</strong><br />
the pathophysiology <strong>and</strong> therapy <strong>of</strong> selected<br />
diseases that are commonly managed. Emphasis<br />
is placed on the provision <strong>of</strong> pharmaceutical care<br />
through the selection <strong>of</strong> appropriate therapy,<br />
therapeutic monitoring, <strong>and</strong> the prevention<br />
<strong>and</strong> identification <strong>of</strong> adverse drug reactions<br />
<strong>and</strong> interactions. Prerequisite: RX 324, Pre<br />
or Corequisite: RX 403, RX 411. (U)(3)<br />
RX 414. <strong>The</strong>rapeutics II: This is a continuation<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong>rapeutics 1 <strong>and</strong> is a consideration<br />
<strong>of</strong> the pathophysiology <strong>and</strong> therapy <strong>of</strong> selected<br />
diseases that are commonly managed. Emphasis<br />

RX 415. Self-Care <strong>and</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Promotion I:<br />
To develop, use, <strong>and</strong> evaluate self-care strategies<br />
to assist patients in assessing their health status<br />
to achieve <strong>and</strong> maintain optimal health. Topics<br />
include nutrition, exercise, immunizations,<br />
preventative screenings, vitamins, herbals,<br />
nonprescription medications, home monitoring<br />
techniques, nonpharmacological treatments,<br />
<strong>and</strong> adverse drug events (ADE) detection <strong>and</strong><br />
reporting. Prerequisite: None. (U)(2)<br />
RX 416. Self-Care <strong>and</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Promotion II:<br />
A continuation <strong>of</strong> Self-Care <strong>and</strong> <strong>Health</strong><br />
Promotion 1. Prerequisite: RX 415, Self-Care<br />
<strong>and</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Promotion 1. (U)(3)<br />
RX 421. Introduction to Dosage Forms: This<br />
lecture <strong>and</strong> laboratory course correlates physical<br />
properties <strong>of</strong> drugs <strong>and</strong> additives to the design<br />
<strong>of</strong> solid, liquid <strong>and</strong> semi-solid dosage forms.<br />
Prerequisites: RX 351 (U)(4)<br />
RX 422. Advanced Dosage Forms: This<br />
course develops concepts <strong>and</strong> skills in designing<br />
<strong>and</strong> preparing rate-controlled drug delivery<br />
systems including sterile, parenteral dosage<br />
forms <strong>and</strong> enteral nutrition formulations.<br />
Prerequisites: Introduction to Dosage<br />
Forms (RX 421). (U)(4).<br />
RX 432. Personnel <strong>and</strong> Financial Management:<br />
Personnel <strong>and</strong> resource management <strong>and</strong> basic<br />
accounting <strong>and</strong> marketing skills essential for<br />
pharmacy practice management. Prerequisite:<br />
P-1 st<strong>and</strong>ing in the pr<strong>of</strong>essional pharmacy<br />
program. (U)(3).<br />
RX 500. Introduction to Experiential Rotations:<br />
This is a seminar course which prepares the<br />
pharmacy student for the final year <strong>of</strong> the pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
curriculum. Topics are discussed which<br />
impact the practice <strong>of</strong> pharmacy, including<br />
new treatments <strong>and</strong> delivery systems, ethics,<br />
quality/risk management, malpractice/liability<br />
insurance, informed consent, management <strong>of</strong><br />
medical information/patient confidentiality,<br />
third part reimbursement <strong>and</strong> pharmacist/<br />
patient/physician relationships. Prerequisites:<br />
P-3 St<strong>and</strong>ing in pharmacy program <strong>and</strong> P-4
