3.4.5. Other Variants<br />

Other possible variants on cabling structures are listed below. As mentioned at the start, combinations or hybrid<br />

forms of the described cabling architectures are used in practice, depending upon physical conditions and requirements.<br />

The same is true with the selection of transmission media, which can determine data center sustainability in terms<br />

of migration options (scalability). An overview of different transmission protocols and the media they support as<br />

well as their associated length restrictions can be found in section 3.8.<br />
