Boarding
Boarding at Uplands is for students aged 8 and above.
Boarding accommodation is based in five semi-detached houses, located 2km
away from the campus. These houses are inter-linked to provide ease of
movement between them; where matrons and a school nurse stay overnight
to be available should they be needed.
All meals are eaten in school.
The boarding houses can accommodate a maximum of 48 students in six
houses. Three houses are used to accommodate the Head of Boarding, Deputy
Head of Boarding and Houseparents.
Each house has four bedsits and two bathrooms upstairs. The students mainly
share a bedsit with one other student, but occasionally have three students
per room (Years 6-11 only). A maximum of ten students share each house.
Bedsits are single sex and students of the opposite sex are not permitted to
enter.
The houses have gardens where picnic tables and various outdoor
recreational facilities are set up for Boarders to enjoy. The communal sitting
rooms have colour televisions with satellite service, DVD players, stereos and
a supply of board games and jigsaw puzzles. All houses are networked to the
school intranet system with wireless access so Boarders can enjoy internet
facilities safely on their own laptops.
Communal Facilities
The downstairs facilities are communal facilities which offers:
• Study Area with computers and internet access for Years 6 to 11
• Study Area with computers and internet access for Years 12 and 13
• Communal Sitting Room for Years 6 to 9
• Communal Sitting Room for Years 10 and 11
• Communal Sitting Room and kitchen for Years 12 and 13
• Communal Dining Room for whole Boarding House
• Additional ground floor bathroom
