Homework
No child should be working for several hours to finish a piece of set work. If this
happens it may be that:
a) too much was allocated
b) the student has genuine difficulty with the work
c) The student was supposed to have spread the task over several evenings
but left it all until the last
If you feel that a more than reasonable time has been spent on a homework exercise,
please stop the child and write a note as to why the work is incomplete. The teacher
can then address the problem and if appropriate, extend the deadline.
Year 7 to Year 9
Students will receive homework each day, Monday to Friday. The following are
approximate timings. Students should expect homework from three subjects daily.
Year 7
Year 8
Year 9
Total time: 1 hour 20 minutes
Total time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total time: 1 hour 45 minutes
Year 10 and Year 11 – External Examination Courses
Students receive homework each day, Monday to Friday. There is no set timetable as
examination courses require more flexibility.
Appropriate time requirements are:
3 hours per night, Monday to Thursday plus approximately 6 hours on Friday (to
include the weekend). The total amount of time should not exceed 20 hours per
week.
Homework/Private Study Advice
• Ensure that homework is recorded fully and accurately.
• Seek help from a teacher if the child faces difficulties in completing homework well
before the deadline.
• Provide a quiet, appropriate place at home for the child to complete homework.
• Parents must ensure that the homework is signed each day.
