Language Studies The Primary school offers two periods each week for the study of Bahasa Malaysia (the official language of Malaysia). All Malaysian citizens are required to take Bahasa Malaysia, other students may choose. The lessons are differentiated for beginners to advanced speakers. The emphasis in the lessons is for students to gain confidence and fluency in speaking the language. As your child enters Primary Year 6, they will have the opportunity to study Mandarin, German, French or ESL (English as a second language) for two periods a week, with a specialist language teacher. How will I know how my child is doing At Uplands, there are many ways to keep informed about your child’s learning. You can come along to our ‘Friday Briefing’ sessions each week at 7.50 am, where your child’s teacher will talk about the work they have done that week. You will also get a chance to look at displays and look at your child’s work. Our annual ‘Learning Journey’ is another great way to see what your child has been working on that term – from their point of view. You can come and spend time at School, where your child will show you around some of their classes and share their work with you in a structured way. Parent-Teacher conferences are held regularly throughout the year. These are formal meetings where you meet with the teachers to discuss your child’s progress. Our Primary Assemblies are a time for sharing and a wonderful way to see your children in action! We have an open-door policy at Uplands and you are always welcome to come and meet with any of the teachers. SECTION 8 - 2 -
