C. Upon depleting accumulated Sick Leave and after obtaining a doctor's statement certifying a<br />

life threatening or debilitating physical illness or injury preventing the member from<br />

performing the duties of his/her job, a member may request days from the Sick Leave Bank.<br />

The request shall be granted if the member meets the following conditions: (1) District records<br />

show that the member has exhausted his/her accumulated Sick Leave; 2) the member is not<br />

eligible for lost time compensation under Workers' Compensation or under STRS disability; 3)<br />

the member is a contributing member to the Sick Leave Bank; and 4) there are sufficient days<br />

in the Sick Leave Bank to cover the request. Sick Leave Bank days may not be used to care for<br />

another member of the employee’s family.<br />

D. Members may not use days from the Sick Leave Bank to begin the school year.<br />

E. Members may not use more than forty (40) days at any one time from the Sick Leave Bank.<br />

F. The District shall keep accurate records of days accumulated by the Sick Leave Bank and of<br />

Sick Leave used by the Sick Leave Bank. Annually, the District shall notify the Association in<br />

writing of the accumulated days and days charged to the Sick Leave Bank that year.<br />

503 PERSONAL LEAVE (P.N. 2006)<br />

A. Each employee shall be granted up to three (3) days of Personal Leave per school year. Such<br />

leave shall not be cumulative.<br />

B. Personal Leave shall be granted for the following reasons:<br />

1. Personal business;<br />

2. Emergencies of any immediate nature;<br />

3. Religious holiday;<br />

4. Compulsory court attendance (See Section 508, below);<br />

5. Marriage in immediate family;<br />

6. Death of close friend or relative not covered under present Sick Leave;<br />

7. College graduation; and<br />

8. Professional improvement<br />

C. The teacher shall notify the building principal of his/her intent to request Personal Leave on the<br />

leave form (Appendix D).<br />

D. Except for emergencies, notification should be at least three (3) working days in advance. In<br />

emergency situations, the form shall be completed by the teacher upon return to work.<br />

However, the teacher is obliged to notify the Principal of the emergency and the need to be off<br />

from his/her teaching assignment, so as to provide the Principal with the opportunity to arrange<br />

for a substitute for the teacher. The Superintendent shall notify the teacher requesting Personal<br />

Leave at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to the requested date as to the status of the leave.<br />

E. Personal Leave shall not be used for shopping trips, secondary employment, seeking other<br />

employment, for taking or extending a vacation or holiday, or for any recreational activities,<br />

without the express written approval of the Superintendent.<br />

F. If Personal Leave is requested for reason B1 or B8, above, prior to September 30 or after April<br />

30, the express written approval of the Superintendent, regardless of reason, must be obtained.<br />
