Construction of the University of Health
began in spring 2012. Drees & Sommer
was commissioned by the NRW
Construction and Properties Office to
undertake project control. For the first
stage (blocks B and C and infrastructure),
the project managers are supporting
the principal from the preparation of
execution phase onwards and for the
second stage (block A) directly from the
project preparation phase onwards,
and are undertaking user coordination,
planning reviews, emulation and commissioning
management. The general
planner has also sought Drees & Sommer
support for facade planning and the
development of an energy concept. The
experts also carried out a preliminary
study to establish whether the campus
could be DGNB-certified.
The special challenge for the entire
project is, above all, the timeline: It is
essential that the University of Health
(first stage) can move in on schedule in
time for Winter Semester 2014. As the
university was only founded in autumn
2009, it is still under development –
with the result that the Drees & Sommer
team is giving priority to determining
user requirements. For the second stage
(block A), too, user coordination with
nine individual users – including state
healthcare institutes – has resulted in
a considerable workload.

Despite the deadline pressure and
extensive coordination with users,
Drees & Sommer services ensured that
planning was successfully completed.
The project is on schedule within budget,
and the approval phase for the second
phase with subsequent preparation of execution
will follow over the coming months.
Shell construction
work on the
upper floors will also
proceed apace. Optimal
service delivery during the NRW
healthcare campus project was a
significant reason for follow-up contracts
from the NRW Construction and Properties
Office.
