Caring Families Fund – 1995 ($16,983) provides operating revenue for Caring Families, Inc., to help prevent normal family challenges from growing into crisis situations. Victor J. Cassano Unrestricted Fund – 2003 ($29,420) provides unrestricted dollars to The Dayton Foundation to help meet emerging community needs. Victor Cassano, Sr., founded and owned Cassano’s Pizza and Subs. Catch the Building Spirit Catch the Building Spirit – 1998 ($22,595) supports the organization that assists lowincome citizens in obtaining safe, affordable, quality housing in the Miami Valley, by working with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley – 1973 ($26,604) fulfills the wishes of private citizens of Dayton who joined their contributions together to benefit Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley. Hampden W. and Erma R. Catterton Hampden W. and Erma R. Catterton Fund – 1991 ($919,181) provides charitable support for performing arts and cultural organizations within the Dayton and Miami Valley area. The donors had a strong commitment to the Dayton community. Hampden W. Catterton, a successful insurance agent, and his wife, Erma, moved to Dayton in the 1940s. David and Mary Ann Cavanaugh Fund – 2001 ($38,184) will benefit educational, religious and social service organizations, as recommended by the donors. Challenger Learning Center Challenger Learning Center of Greater Dayton Fund – 2003 ($352) will support the programs and operations of this regional educational program, which uses simulated space flights to inspire learning. The Center is a member of an international network of Challenger Learning Centers founded by the families of the astronauts lost in the 1986 Challenger Space Shuttle disaster. Chaminade-Julienne High School Endowment Fund – 1987 ($52,910) benefits projects in this Catholic centercity educational environment through scholarship and salary and tuition assistance. Charch and Hale Memorial Fund – 1985 ($104,751) generates income to be applied toward various expenses incurred by the Faith United Church of Christ, formerly the Hale United Church of Christ. The fund’s creator, Anna Elizabeth Charch, was a Dayton schoolteacher and granddaughter of William Hale, the founding pastor of the church. Children’s Charitable and Educational Trust Fund – 1967 ($118,752) benefits children and youth. William Henry Zwiesler, a photoengraver at Dayton Process Engravers and a collector of art books and medallions, created the fund. Choices in Community Living Fund – 1996 ($2,893) provides residential, programming and advocacy options for a diverse population of citizens who have mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities. Christ Episcopal Church of Xenia Endowment Fund – 2001 will generate annual revenue to aid the church’s general operations and ministries. W. A. Chryst Fund – 1995 ($85,024) provides unrestricted income to meet changing community needs in memory of William A. Chryst, an engineer who worked with Charles F. Kettering at Delco in the early days. The fund was founded by the estate of his daughter, Phyllis C. Fouts, an avid community volunteer. CITYFOLK CITYFOLK Permanence Fund – 1998 ($18,590) ensures future support of the programs and institutional stability of CITYFOLK, Dayton’s traditional and ethnic arts organization. CITYFOLK’s mission is to celebrate diversity and affirm the human spirit by providing the Greater Dayton area with access and exposure to the best in folk, ethnic and traditional arts. David H. and Edith W. Clark Family Fund – 1995 ($226,785) will provide annual unrestricted revenue for four charitable, health and human service organizations, as designated by the donors. David Clark, a retired employee of Frigidaire, and his wife, Edith, were active members of Jamestown United Methodist Church. Philip D. Clawson Scholarship Fund – 2000 ($9,338) remembers this Harrison Township toolmaker, who believed in working hard so his children could attend Catholic schools. This fund will provide tuition assistance scholarships to Chaminade- Julienne High School juniors or seniors. The Clayton Community Foundation Fund – 2002 ($7,463) will enhance cultural, recreational and social programs, as well as encourage employment, economic development and revitalization in the City of Clayton. Joseph T. Cline Joseph T. Cline Awards Fund – 1984 ($78,783) honors the father of fund founder Carolynne H. Cline. Joseph Cline was a Britishborn optometrist and founder of People’s Bank (now National City Bank). Jack & Carol Adam “Some young people today don’t always recognize all the choices that are available to them in our world – education, career or where they will make their home and raise a family one day, for instance. “We want to encourage students to dare to dream – to truly open themselves up to more than what they ever imagined possible for their futures. “Catholic education is a steppingstone to these possibilities. It also teaches lifetime values, which are so important in today’s secular society.” Carol and Jack Adam are able to support young people and parochial educational programs through their Charitable Checking Account and the Jack and Carol Adam Family Fund, an endowment established in 1999.
