funding to employees, faculty
and students for the creation
of, or participation in, enrichment
activities and other
programs in the schools.
The Lima Community
Foundation Fund – 1993
($175,655) fosters charitable
endeavors benefiting
the citizens of the city of
Lima and of Allen County.
Lima Family YMCA
Endowment Fund – 2003
will generate unrestricted
operating revenue to support
the Young Men’s Christian
Association of Lima’s mission
to put Christian principles
into practice through programs
that build healthy
spirits, minds and bodies.
Lima Senior High Class
of 1970 Fund – 2000 will
further the philanthropic
endeavors of this alumni
class to benefit the city of
Lima and the Lima City
School District.
Alexander D. and Mary
W. MacDonell Family Fund
– 1986 ($364,378) perpetuates
the MacDonell family
tradition of philanthropy. The
three children of A. D. and
Mary MacDonell created this
fund as a vehicle for grantmaking,
primarily in Allen
County. A. D. MacDonell was
the chair and CEO of the
Metropolitan Bank of Lima
and an executive of the City
Loan & Savings Co. Mary
MacDonell was an active
community leader.
James A. and Ellen O.
MacDonell Memorial Fund
– 2001 will enhance special
projects and educational
programs of the MacDonell
House in Lima. Built in
1892, the Victorian house
and many of its furnishings
were donated to the Allen
County Historical Society
by the MacDonell family.
Martha S. MacDonell Arts
Fund – 2001 ($45,485)
will provide grants to organizations
that sponsor arts
activities and professional
artists in the Lima/Allen
County area. The fund is a
tribute to this community
Martha S. MacDonell
leader, who is a founding
member of the Council for
the Arts of Greater Lima
and a board member for
the Ohio Arts Council.
Dr. Raymond A. Olien
Memorial Scholarship Fund
– 2003 ($2,567) will award
scholarships to Lima Senior
High School graduates who
are pursuing an education
in vocal or choral music.
Raymond Olien was a former
teacher at Lima Senior High
School and the director of
choral music.
George B. Quatman Scholarship
for the Department
of Electrical Engineering
Fund – 2001 ($327,607)
provides scholarships for
the Department of Electrical
Engineering at the University
of Dayton.
The United Way of Greater
Lima Endowment Fund –
2003 will assist the United
Way’s charitable work in
Lima.
University of Dayton Fund
– 2001 will provide longterm
financial resources
to guarantee continued development
of enrichment
activities and programs for
the University’s students,
faculty and staff.
Wright Family Athletic
Scholarship Fund – 2001
($2,208) salutes excellence
in athletics by awarding
college scholarships to Lima
High School graduates who
have been active in a school
sport. The fund honors the
memory of Carl E. Wright,
founder of Wright Distributions
Center, Inc.
Wright Family Fine and
Performing Arts Scholarship
Fund – 2001 ($2,208)
Carl E. Wright
confers college scholarships
upon Lima High School
graduates who have made a
sincere contribution in the
fine or performing arts. The
fund honors the memory
of Carl E. Wright, founder
of Wright Distributions
Centers, Inc.

Lester & Cleon Studebaker
Bowers Scholarship Fund –
2000 ($8,527) salutes excellence
by awarding scholarships
to Bethel High School
graduates pursuing a degree
in agriculture, dietary science,
education or childhood development.
The fund was
established by the Bowers’
children in honor of their
parents’ 50th wedding
anniversary.
David W. Dinsmore
Scholarship Fund – 1999
($10,248) pays tribute to
this 1934 graduate of Bethel
High School and past president
of the Bethel School
Board. This fund awards
college scholarships to Bethel
High School graduates and
students completing their
studies at Miami Valley
Career Technology Center.
Jeanette C. Gaston Memorial
Music Scholarship Fund –
1998 ($20,772) furnishes
scholarships to graduating
Tippecanoe High School
seniors who have participated
in the Tipp City Band and
demonstrated leadership
skills and academic aptitude.
Jeanette Gaston died in a car
accident in 1991, while she
was a freshman at Ball State
University where she played
the trombone in the band.
August Henke Trust Fund
– 1998 ($27,612) was originated
by Emma Henke
Warner, daughter of August
Henke, to provide comfort
and support to needy and
aged men. A native of Germany,
August Henke was
considered the oldest living
resident in Tipp City, until
his death in 1923 at the
age of 92.
Kendig Trust Fund – 1998
($3,152) was created by
William Kendig and his wife,
Loletha, to benefit Tipp City
youths. The Kendigs lived
for a short while in Tipp City
and had no children of
their own.
Jim and June Kyle Family
Fund – 2001 ($12,116)
honors the former vice president
of Spring Hill Nurseries
and former chair of the
Tipp City Area Community
Foundations’ distribution
committee and his wife.
Unrestricted dollars will help
meet the changing needs of
the Village of Tipp City and
its surrounding area.
