This section expla<strong>in</strong>s how to create a marked <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong> pattern dataset <strong>in</strong> spatstat, and how to<br />

manipulate it.<br />

30.1 Creat<strong>in</strong>g marked <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong> pattern datasets<br />

The marks attached to a <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong> pattern may be stored <strong>in</strong> a vector (with one entry for each<br />

<strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong>) or <strong>in</strong> a matrix or data frame (with one row for each <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong> and one column for each mark<br />

variable). The mark values can be of any atomic type: numeric, <strong>in</strong>teger, character, factor, logical<br />

or complex.<br />

A marked <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong> pattern dataset can be created us<strong>in</strong>g any of the follow<strong>in</strong>g tools:<br />

ppp create <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong> pattern dataset<br />

as.ppp convert other data to <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong> pattern<br />

superimpose comb<strong>in</strong>e several <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong> <strong>patterns</strong> <strong>in</strong>to a marked <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong> pattern<br />

marks extract marks from a <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong> pattern<br />

marks ppp(x, y, ..., marks = m)<br />

wherexand y are vectors of equal length conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the (x,y) coord<strong>in</strong>ates, m is either a vector of<br />

the same length as x conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the mark values for each <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong>, or a matrix or data frame with<br />

nrow(m) = length(x) conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the multivariate mark for each <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong>, and ... are arguments<br />

that determ<strong>in</strong>e the w<strong>in</strong>dow for the <strong>po<strong>in</strong>t</strong> pattern.<br />
