Buffer and Dissolve
Buffer:
Often it is necessary to know what lies within a certain specific
distance of a feature. This can be done by creating a Buffer, an
area that is a precisely measured distance from the feature of
interest.
Dissolve:
This function enables the simplification of a layer by joining
(aggregating) features based on shared attributes.
Task 3:
Open a new QGIS Project and add the EThekwini and Health Layers from the Spatial Analysis
folder.
Open the Attribute Tables for both layers and have a good look at them.
Intersect:
Open the Intersect Window from the Geoprocessing
Menu.
Under the Input vector Layer select Health
Under Intersect Layer select eThekwini
Click on Browse and give the output shapefile an
appropriate name. Make sure you are working in the
correct folder.
Click Ok. Select "Yes" when asked if you want to add the
new layer to the TOC.
