The result window shows the number
of health facilities within 2 kilometers of
the National Roads.
Dissolve
In this example we will use the KZN_ municipalities layer to determine the Districts in KZN. Each
District contains more than one municipality. Thus these District names are repeated for each
municipality in that District. We can aggregate the municipalities layer to show just these
Districts.

Start a new QGIS project.
Add the KZN_municipalities
layer.
Open the Attribute Table of
this layer.
Look carefully at the
District Field. You will
notice that districts are
repeated. This is because
there is often more than
one municipality in a district.
Open the Dissolve Window in the
Geoprocessing Menu.
Set the Input Vector Layer as
KZN_municipalities.
Set the Dissolve Field as District.
Give the output shapefile an appropriate
name. Make sure you are working in the
correct folder. Click Ok. Select "Yes" when
asked if you want to add the new layer to the TOC.
