Music Ministries Children’s Choir: Sings at the 9:00 Mass on the 3rd Sunday of the month from September—June, and meets for practice every Tuesday at 5:00pm in the school auditorium. Choir (Adult): Sings at 10:30am Mass on Sundays from September—June, and meets for practice on Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm in the church. HURRICANE RELIEF St. Raymond Parish is conducting “Hurricane Relief” for many of our parishioners and neighbors who are suffering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. We have established a “Hurricane Relief Fund” for monetary donations. Checks can be made out to “St. Raymond Church” with “Hurricane Relief” on the memo line. This money will be used to help our parishioners and neighbors get through this devastating time. Our Parish Social Ministry Office is conducting an ongoing collection of “items” that are most needed. Below is a listing of the things to donate. Fr. Chuck’s Corner Greetings and God’s blessings be yours on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord! Today signals the official end of the Christmas season. Monday starts the initial segment of Ordinary Time. The voice of God rings out loud and clear in today’s readings proclaiming a message of salvation. Faith means changing one’s behavior, a reorientation of one’s whole life. In the first reading, Isaiah proclaims the fulfillment of Gods coming. “Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” Then in Paul’s letter to Titus, God’s generous love and kindness are revealed in Jesus who is our hope; while Luke’s gospel solidifies the importance of Jesus through his baptism. “And a voice came from heaven, ‘You Are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.’” Through his baptism, Jesus was revealed as the anointed and chosen one, a sign of God’s care and the proclamation of God’s grace and glory. Now with the coming of the Holy Spirit, God shows his constant process of communication with humanity. Jesus represents the fullness of God’s revelation to humanity. As Jesus says to the apostle Philip, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.” By his example, Jesus has shown us that God possesses and expresses to perfection the qualities of truth, beauty, justice, mercy, grace, goodness, compassion-in a word, love. Perhaps one of the most useful titles found in the Bible for God is the Advent one-Emmanuel, which literally means “God-with-us.” That conviction, firmly rooted in our hearts, may be all we ever need to know about our loving God. I believe that this feast in honor of the Baptism of Jesus should remind us of the great calling of our own baptism. God is revealing something of how we are to follow Jesus and ultimately God’s self. The Messiah has come and as his disciples we are to imitate him in doing good, living righteously, showing kindness, and bringing God’s justice which outlasts all violence. So make sure you know the date of your own baptism. Use it as a day to reflect on your own faith commitment.. Con- nect with God in prayer that day, maybe at Mass and Holy Communion. Know it as the most important day in your life for its meaning, significance and destiny for your life. What a great response we had to the plea for help in selling the remaining Backwards Drawing Tickets last weekend. Over 200 tickets were taken for sale. Now the key is to get them all back by this coming Friday, January 18 th , the day before the Winter Bash party on the 19 th . All ticket agents are asked to please return their sold or unsold ticket by this Friday, the 18 th . Tickets for the Winter Bash party are still available at the rectory during regular office hours. Check the bulletin ad for more information. And, again, thanks to all who stepped up to get a ticket sold last weekend. The latest issue of The Cloak is being distributed after all the Masses this weekend. The theme is Stewardship and it was supposed to be a part of our annual Stewardship renewal campaign last November. However, with the hurricane, we changed this year’s approach, leaving it as only the parish-wide mailing that went out in late November. So now we are offering this issue of The Cloak to everyone for information and spiritual insight to the whole approach of Stewardship. Thanks to John Markey and his diligent staff of reporters and writers for giving us another great issue of The Cloak. I hope everyone enjoys it. Please remember to take home a copy of the bulletin when you leave Mass today. It contains many items of interest and invitation with something for everyone. Of special note is news and needs from Parish Social Ministry, info from Religious Education and the Principal’s Corner from St. Raymond’s School, sign-up for the March for Life on Friday, January 25 th , sponsored by the Human Life Committee and much more.
