Stewardship Thought for the Week
Jesus, whom God called “my beloved Son,” is
also the “servant” of whom Isaiah speaks in the
first reading. We who are baptized in Christ must
follow His example and use our time and resources
in the service of God and neighbor.
Weekly Sacrificial Giving:
Week of 1/6/13: $18,980
Week of 1/8/12: $20,923
Monthly sharing with:
Bishop Cardone and his mission work in the
Solomon Islands: $150
Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Again this year our baby clothes collection
was a huge success! Many thanks to all
who contributed, from the thoughtful shoppers
to the knitters, and basket makers. We
have received thanks from the staffs at
Momma’s House, Regina House, and Birthright on
behalf of their clients.
Our Lady of Loretto, St. Mary of the Isle, Dismas
House and Queen of the Most Holy Rosary have all
expressed their gratitude and appreciation for your
generosity to our monthly food collection. Our thanks
to Sister Ruthanne and everyone in St. Raymond
School, Evelyn Contaldi and everyone in the Religious
Education program, and the Sodality of Our Lady, for
keeping our pantry supplied.
The need for this food I great and
it makes a difference in the lives of
the many families and individuals
who would go hungry without it.
Thank you!
The Heart
of the Parish
Parish Social Ministry
If we were blessed to escape the fury
of Sandy, the extensive impact of this
that storm may also escape our
comprehension. Unless we are
affected personally in some way, it is
difficult to understand completely the
continued ramifications and domino
effect of such an event. Yet, because
we are a community of especially
concerned and empathetic people in East Rockaway
and Lynbrook our close-knit community will continue
to be as generous as possible so that our neighbors
can return to life close to normal, as quickly as
possible. However, we must realize that much of the
devastation will take months if not years to return to
relative normality. Do we have the resolution and
commitment to stay the course of generosity and
concern for Sandy’s victims for as long as it takes
From what we are privileged to witness at Parish
Social Ministry, we most certainly do. We see a
community dedicated to stewardship; one which
exhibits a cooperate spirit, striving to make a
difference. With the gift of God’s graces, we will
accomplish all that needs to be done.
Disaster Relief Fund: If you know anyone in our
parish neighborhood who was affected by Sandy,
please let him or her know that applications for
Catholic Charities Disaster Relief Fund continue to be
accepted. Everyone who was impacted by Sandy in
our Parish can call Parish Social Ministry (887-9197)
to make an appointment to submit an application for
help with immediate needs. Please help us to spread
the word.
