The university was founded in 1940. It consists of 15 departments, 4 colleges, Department of<br />
Professional and Retraining, Regional Center for Testing and Pre-University training, scientific<br />
research laboratories and resource centers. The university provides academic training for specialists of<br />
the first level of higher education of 69 specialties, 32 specialties at graduate school, 37 specialties at<br />
post-secondary educational institutions, 43 specialties at the Institute for Professional Skills Upgrading<br />
and Retraining. Grodno State University named after Yanka Kupala is a laureate of the Award of the<br />
Government of the Republic of Belarus for achievements in terms of quality. In 2011 the university<br />
obtained the status of Scientific Organization.<br />
