So many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> movements <strong>of</strong> 2011 direct <strong>the</strong>ir critiques<br />
aga<strong>in</strong>st political structures and forms <strong>of</strong> representation, <strong>the</strong>n,<br />
because <strong>the</strong>y recognize clearly that representation, even when it<br />
is effective, blocks democracy ra<strong>the</strong>r than fosters it. Where, <strong>the</strong>y<br />
ask, has <strong>the</strong> project for democracy gone How can we engage it<br />
aga<strong>in</strong> What does it mean to w<strong>in</strong> back (or, really, to realize for <strong>the</strong><br />
first time) <strong>the</strong> political power <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> citizen-worker One path,<br />
<strong>the</strong> movements teach, passes through <strong>the</strong> revolt and rebellion<br />
aga<strong>in</strong>st <strong>the</strong> impoverished and depotentialized subjective figures<br />
we have outl<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> this chapter. Democracy will be realized only<br />
when a subject capable <strong>of</strong> grasp<strong>in</strong>g and enact<strong>in</strong>g it has emerged.
