aspects <strong>of</strong> exploited and bureaucratized labor <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> capitalist era,<br />

but it can also be a liv<strong>in</strong>g kairos that traverses and subverts those<br />

conditions <strong>of</strong> work and exploitation, a kairos <strong>of</strong> resistance.<br />

When you bend under <strong>the</strong> weight <strong>of</strong> debt, when your<br />

attention is hypnotically glued to your screen, when you have<br />

made your house <strong>in</strong>to a prison, you realize how much <strong>the</strong><br />

capitalist crisis <strong>in</strong>dividualizes and stra<strong>in</strong>s <strong>the</strong> human passions.<br />

You are alone, depotentialized. But as soon as you look around,<br />

you see that <strong>the</strong> crisis has also resulted <strong>in</strong> a be<strong>in</strong>g toge<strong>the</strong>r. In <strong>the</strong><br />

crisis, <strong>in</strong>debtedness, mediatization, securitization, and<br />

representation designate a collective condition. There is no<br />

alternative, certa<strong>in</strong>ly; we are on <strong>the</strong> decks <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Titanic, and this<br />

impoverishment and reduction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> power <strong>of</strong> s<strong>in</strong>gularities<br />

make our life <strong>in</strong>to a gray <strong>in</strong>difference. But we are here toge<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

There is a kairos <strong>of</strong> resistance as well as a kairos <strong>of</strong> community.<br />

We must struggle to liberate ourselves from <strong>the</strong>se<br />

conditions <strong>of</strong> impoverishment, miser}', and solitude. But how can<br />

we beg<strong>in</strong> The depotentialized subject is a figure that has been<br />

separated from what it can do, as Deleuze says <strong>in</strong> his read<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong><br />

Nietzsche: "Une force separee de ce qu elle peut." We must<br />

discover a force that reconnects action to be<strong>in</strong>g toge<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

Indignation, for example, which expresses <strong>in</strong>dividual suffer<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

alludes even <strong>in</strong> its solitary resistance to be<strong>in</strong>g toge<strong>the</strong>r. It<br />

becomes s<strong>in</strong>gular, because becom<strong>in</strong>g s<strong>in</strong>gular, <strong>in</strong> contrast to<br />

becom<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dividual, means f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g once aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> subjective<br />

force <strong>in</strong> be<strong>in</strong>g toge<strong>the</strong>r. A s<strong>in</strong>gular subjectivity discovers that<br />

<strong>the</strong>re is no event without a recomposition with o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

s<strong>in</strong>gularities, that <strong>the</strong>re is no be<strong>in</strong>g toge<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> s<strong>in</strong>gular<br />

subjectivities without rebellion. A process <strong>of</strong> s<strong>in</strong>gularization is<br />

thus <strong>in</strong>carnated: a self-affirmation, a self-valorization, and a<br />

subjective decision that all open toward a state <strong>of</strong> be<strong>in</strong>g toge<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

All political movements are born this way: from a decision <strong>of</strong><br />

rupture to a proposition <strong>of</strong> act<strong>in</strong>g toge<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

Invert <strong>the</strong> Debt<br />

The process <strong>of</strong> subjectivation beg<strong>in</strong>s with refusal. I won't.<br />

We won't pay your debt. We refuse to be evicted from our<br />

houses. We will not submit to austerity measures. Instead we
