GIDOODEMINAANIG (Our Cl<strong>an</strong>s): since time immemorial, the <strong>Ojibwe</strong> <strong>Anishinaabeg</strong> have<br />
a system of government called GIDOODEMINAANIG, me<strong>an</strong>ing 'Our blood relations', or<br />
'cl<strong>an</strong>s'.<br />
“Growth Within”, acrylic on c<strong>an</strong>vas <strong>by</strong> Cree/Anishinaabe medicine painter Simone McLeod (Aki-egw<strong>an</strong>iizid), depicting her family<br />
<strong>an</strong>d, at the bottom of the painting, her own <strong>Ojibwe</strong> dodemic cl<strong>an</strong> sign: NAME, the sturgeon. Simone descends from a long line<br />
