Do you think that Social Housing could be a strategic sector for the recovery of the Italian economy? In order to see Social Housing as a key sector for the economic recovery there is the need of a cultural shift. From looking at it as a low quality sector, offering lowcost solutions to basic needs, to imagine Social Housing as the catalyst for the spread of efficient and innovative housing solutions at reduced costs. This is possible only if we see the “Big Picture” of Social Housing, namely not just cheap houses in low-income neighbourhoods but extended household systems where to test new accessible technologies. 2. The growing size of urban cities in low income countries is a pressing phenomenon. Do you think that Social Housing could improve the quality of life of poor suburbs? If so, how? Social Housing can be seen as a virtuous process for qualifying poor areas of low income countries to the extent to which it is integrated in the surrounding areas. It is not a direct solution for poverty and human marginalization but it works on the long run, only if conceived from a systemic point of view. 71
