Action Team say it is working with a local
school and a safety campaigner to make the
roads of Crosby ‘significantly safer.’
Labour Action Team leader, Veronica Bennett
is joining forces with Ursuline Primary Head
teacher, Mark McQueen and road safety
campaigner, Dan Kenyon, to look at ways in
which safety can be improved even further on
our local roads.
Road safety has been improving in Sefton. In
the last five years there have been no deaths of
children 16 and under on roads in the borough
and injuries have fortunately fallen
dramatically.
Veronica, who lives in Blundellsands, said she
is delighted that she has been able to join forces
with Mr Kenyon to build on Sefton’s success.
Veronica said: “Here in Sefton we have seen
the council make some real improvements in
road safety. Safety records on our roads are
already very good but improvements can
always be made and I am working with Sefton
Council to explore the opportunity of
implementing any of those improvements.
“Lots of parents would rather walk or cycle to
school with their children, but we have to make
sure that cycling and walking to school is a safe
option as well as a healthy,
environmentally–friendly one.
“As an old pupil of the Ursuline myself, I
know that some of the junctions in the area are

Mr McQueen said: “The high number of
schools and nurseries in the area meant that it
was crucial that our roads are safe. We would
obviously like parents to feel safer either
walking or cycling to school with their
children. At Ursuline Primary, we are running
our annual cycle to school week campaign and
we are seeing more people taking part now
than ever, which shows how popular cycling is
now becoming.”
Mr Kenyon added: “It is important for people
of all ages to regain the confidence to use our
roads for other things other than driving. This
is not just a safety issue, it is an environmental
issue and it is a quality of life issue.”
